SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA men's tennis team will look to add to its momentum created at last weekend's runner-up finish at the 52nd annual H-E-B Tournament of Champions, as the Roadrunners host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the UTSA Tennis Center.
UTSA (7-6), which has won five of its last six matches, won two contests at the tournament before dropping a 4-0 decision to South Alabama in the championship match.
Gabriel Bugiga has won his last two singles matches to push his record to 3-7 this spring. Kai Breitbach owns a team-best 8-3 mark in singles competition, while Joao Ceolin is 7-5 overall.
On the doubles courts, Ceolin and Igor Cantanhede own a 3-1 record at the second position to lead the way.
The Islanders (14-2) dropped a semifinal contest at the same tournament last weekend, but rebounded to defeat New Mexico State in the third-place game, 4-1.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi edged the Roadrunners, 4-3, earlier this season in a match played on Feb. 10 in Corpus Christi. UTSA won the doubles point, but the Islanders rallied to win four of the six singles matchups to clinch the contest. Bugiga and Ceolin were the only Roadrunners to win on the singles courts.
