McGeehan guides Roadrunners to eighth at The Dickson

THE WOODLANDS — Becky McGeehan tied for 14th place to lead the UTSA women's golf team to eighth at The Dickson on Tuesday at The Woodlands Country Club.

McGeehan carded an even-par 72 in the only round contested due to unplayable course conditions on Monday that washed out 36 holes. She posted birdies on the par-4 fifth and par-5 sixth en route to a 34 on the front nine. The Gutersloh, Germany, native wrote down par on seven of the nine holes on the back en route to the top finish of her senior season.

Julie Houston was one shot behind her teammate, as the junior from Allen, Texas, fired a 73 to tie for 21st. Her round also was highlighted by a pair of birdies on the front nine.

Nikki Long tied for 38th with a 75, while Madison Kidd tied for 57th with a 77, the Roadrunners' other counting score. Ana Gonzalez was 76th (80).

UTSA turned in a 297 to finish two shots in front of No. 23 Iowa State and Mississippi State and just three behind SMU in a 17-team field that included eight top-50 squads.

No. 47 Clemson captured the team crown with a 283, followed by 25th-ranked Purdue (288), No. 36 Texas A&M (290), No. 16 Kent State (292), No. 21 Houston (293) and No. 32 Florida State (293).

Sasikarn Somboonsup of Texas State won the individual title with a 5-under 67.

The Roadrunners will return to action on March 12-13 when they travel to St. George, Utah, for the BYU at Entrada Classic.
