SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's tennis team will play a pair of matches this weekend. The Roadrunners will host Sam Houston State at 1 p.m. Saturday at the UTSA Tennis Center. The squad then will head across town to face Incarnate Word in a 1 p.m. match at the Clarence Mabry Tennis Center.
UTSA (2-0) is coming off back-to-back wins on the road. The Roadrunners earned a 4-3 victory in the spring opener against Stephen F. Austin last Sunday. The Birds wrapped up their road trip with a 5-2 victory over Prairie View A&M the next day.
Denisa Ibrahimovic leads UTSA's singles contingent with a 2-0 mark at the first spot. Charleen Tiwari has also stacked a pair of singles wins at the fourth position.
SCOUTING SAM HOUSTON STATE
The Bearkats (1-2) opened the spring season at home with a 6-1 victory over Prairie View A&M. However, that momentum did not travel as they suffered a 5-2 setback to Texas A&M and a 6-1 loss to Houston on the road.
LAST MEETING WITH THE BEARKATS
The last time these two teams met was on February 6, 2015 in Huntsville, where UTSA notched a convincing 5-2 victory. The Roadrunners won the doubles point and posted four of five tallies in singles competition.
SCOUTING INCARNATE WORD
The Cardinals (0-1) opened their spring season with a 6-1 loss to Houston on Jan. 28, 2017 at Houston.
LAST MEETING WITH THE CARDINALS
The two squads also met last season, as the Roadrunners tallied a 7-0 win on February 5, 2017 in San Antonio at the UTSA Tennis Center.
