Women's tennis to head to Louisiana for three matches this weekend

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's tennis team will wrap up a five-match road trip with three contests this weekend in Louisiana.

The Roadrunners will return to action at 2:30 p.m. on Friday against Tulane at City Park Pepsi Tennis Center. UTSA then will travel to Lake Charles, La., the next day for an 11 a.m. tilt with McNeese State at the Nancy Hank Tennis Center. On Sunday, the road swing will wrap up with a stop in Natchitoches, La., for an 11 a.m. matchup with Northwestern State at the Jack Fisher Lady Demon Complex.

UTSA (3-2) is looking to bounce back from a 4-3 loss at UTRGV last Saturday. The Roadrunners clinched the doubles point in the match, but only picked up two singles wins.

Laura Cabrera was one of the two UTSA players to earn a win in the contest. The sophomore from Barcelona, Spain, improved to 5-0 in singles action.

Meanwhile, Denisa Ibrahimovic also was a winner in singles play, which improved her record to 3-2 overall.

SCOUTING THE GREEN WAVE
Tulane (4-3) has won two of its last three matches, including a 5-1 win against South Dakota Sate on Sunday in Columbia, Mo. The Green Wave also wins over UAB, New Orleans and Northwestern State.

Christina Sisti leads Tulane with an 8-4 record in singles action, while Ivone Alvaro is 3-0 in singles play during the spring campaign.

LAST MEETING WITH TULANE
The two teams last met on March 10, 2017, in San Antonio, as then-No. 42 Green Wave collected a 4-3 victory. Tulane won the doubles point and the two teams split the six singles matches. Ibrahimovic is the lone returning Roadrunner that earned a victory in that contest, picking up a straight-sets win at No. 2 singles.

SCOUTING THE COWGIRLS
McNeese State (1-0) won their only matchup this spring, a 7-0 decision against Louisiana Tech.

LAST MEETING WITH MCNEESE STATE
UTSA opened its 2017 campaign on Jan. 28 with a 5-2 win over the Cowgirls. Charleen Tiwari, Laura Cabrera and Kylee Kato all netted triumphs in singles play during the match.

SCOUTING THE LADY DEMONS
Northwestern State (1-4) is coming off a 6-1 loss at SMU on Feb. 12. The Lady Demons picked up their only win against Southern Miss, a 5-2 decision on Feb. 9.

Polina Mutel leads Northwestern State with a 3-1 record in singles action, while the duo of Mutel and Polina Ivanova have two wins on the doubles courts.

LAST MEETING WITH NORTHWESTERN STATE
The Lady Demons claimed a 4-3 victory against the Roadrunners on Feb. 19, 2017, in San Antonio. Emilija Dancetovic clinched the match with a three-set win at the fourth singles spot.
