Roadrunners ready for UTSA Softball Tournament

SAN ANTONIO – Fresh off its opening weekend that produced a pair of victories, including one over 2017 NCAA tournament participant Southern Illinois, the UTSA softball team is set to host its 2018 UTSA Softball Tournament, Feb.16-18 at Roadrunner Field.
 
The Roadrunners (2-1) will open the event at 4:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon against Lamar (1-2), before a 7 p.m. match up against Kansas (4-1). UTSA continues play with 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. matchups on Saturday against Prairie View A&M (0-0) and Missouri State (2-2), respectively. Last weekend, Celeste Loughman led the way with six hits in 11 at-bats and a walk en route to a .583 on-base percentage. The Texas native earned the start in all three games of the UTSA Softball Classic and led the team with two steals. Ashlynn Walls and Bailee Baldwinn also aided the offense with .444 and .333 batting averages, respectively.

In the circle, Lizzy Fox and Madison Nelson each tallied a win. Fox tossed 13.2 of the team's 21.0 innings and recorded a 3.59 ERA with four strikeouts and zero walks. Nelson pitched 7.1 innings and finished the weekend with a 0.95 ERA.

Inside the Series: Lamar
The Roadrunners and Cardinals have faced each other eight times in series history, with UTSA prevailing in the last six contests to lead 6-2. The teams last met in March, 2015, when the Roadrunners claimed a 9-1 decision  on the road. Erica Sanchez recorded her first collegiate RBI in the contest.

Inside the Series: Kansas
UTSA and Kansas have gone to battle three times at neutral sites in both program's histories, with Kansas leading the all-time series 3-0. The teams last met in 2004.

Inside the Series: Missouri State
UTSA has faced Missouri State in five occasions all-time, with the Roadrunners holding a solid 4-1 advantage in the series. The teams last met at the 2013 UTSA Classic. In the tournament the teams split, as UTSA took the first game, 8-4, but Missouri State concluded with a 10-2 finale victory.

The Roadrunners and the Panthers have met three times in series history with UTSA boasting a 3-0 margin all-time. The teams last met in 2009, when UTSA collected a 12-2 victory.
