KYLE — Madison Kidd registered her second top-10 finish of the season to guide the UTSA women's golf team to a runner-up showing at the Texas State Invitational, which concluded on Tuesday at Plum Creek Golf Course (par 71/6,059 yards).
Kidd tied for seventh place, the top finish of her collegiate career, to help pave the way for the Roadrunners' third top-five finish of the season. The Lake Jackson, Texas, native posted a 2-over-par 73 in each of her three rounds for a 6-over 219, putting the sophomore in a five-way tie for seventh in the field of 90 players. She had an eagle on the 462-yard, par-5 16th hole to go along with a birdie on the par-4 first to highlight her final round.
Kidd was one of four Roadrunners to place in the top 20, as UTSA finished second with an 881 (300-294-287).
Ana Gonzalez fired a 220 to finish 11th. The freshman from Mexico bounced back from a 75-74—149 in the first two rounds with an even-par 71 over her final 18 holes. She had a pair of birdies to go along with 14 pars, and she ended the event with 42 pars, tied for the most in the field.
Julie Houston settled into a tie for 12th place with a 221. The All-Conference USA performer bounced back from a 77 in the opening round with a 71 and 73 en route to her third top 20 of her junior campaign.
Meanwhile, Nikki Long recorded UTSA's low final round with a 1-under-par 70 that featured birdies on the par-4 12th and par-5 16th. The senior from San Antonio finished in a tie for 18th with a 223 (75-78-70).
Becky McGeehan rounded out the lineup in a tie for 31st with a 229 (78-76-75).
UTSA's 881 was three shots ahead of Houston Baptist (884) and 11 better than Texas State (892) in the field of 17 teams.
Central Arkansas captured the team title with an 872 behind individual medalist Emma Svensson's 211 (76-68-67).
The Roadrunners will return to action on Feb. 26-27 at The Dickson in The Woodlands.
