EDINBURG – The UTSA women's tennis team was defeated by UTRGV, 4-3, on Saturday at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
The Roadrunners (3-2) jumped on top early with two doubles victories to clinch the first point of the match.
Laura Cabrera and Sonia Madroñal paired up for a 6-4 win at the second position, while Ivana Ilic and Charleen Twiari posted a 6-4 victory at the third spot.
In singles play, UTRGV (3-4) picked up three straight wins at the second, third and fifth positions to take a 3-1 lead.
Cabrera continued her perfect start to the season as she moved to 5-0 following a 7-6 (7-1), 6-4 triumph over Anastasia Belyaeva at the fourth spot.
However, UTRGV received a win at the sixth position to clinch the match.
Denisa Ibrahimovic claimed the final point for the Birds in a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 decision at the top flight.
UP NEXT
UTSA will continue its five-match road trip with a stop in New Orleans on Friday, Feb. 16 to play Tulane.
