IRVING, Texas – For the second consecutive week and third time this season UTSA's Jhivvan Jackson has been named the Conference USA Freshman of the Week, for the week ending Dec. 31, the league office announced Tuesday.
Jackson, who leads the Roadrunners in scoring at 17.2 points per outing, was also recognized as the league's top frosh on Nov. 2 and Dec. 26. Jackson along with teammate Keaton Wallace (Nov. 13, Dec. 4, Dec. 11) have combined to win six of the eight weekly C-USA freshman honors this season.
The Bayamón, Puerto Rico native averaged 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in leading UTSA to a 1-1 start to Conference USA play. He closed the week shooting 46.2 percent overall and from 3-point range in 29.0 minutes per outing off the bench.
Jackson scored a game-high 20 in UTSA's win over Rice, making 6 of 10 field goals, including 5 of 7 from three, to go along with four assists, four rebounds and four steals against the Owls. He then netted 17 points on six field goals and four free throws against North Texas, while also corralling five rebounds and totaling three steals against the Mean Green. He totaled nine of UTSA's final 21 points against UNT, including a game-tying layup with 1:30 to play.
The 6-foot guard has notched five 20-plus point and 12 double-digit scoring performances in his 15 career games.
Second-year head coach Steve Henson has now coached 10 C-USA Freshman of the Week award winners – the six this season along with Byron Frohnen's three last season and Giovanni De Nicolao's one.
UTSA returns to the court Thursday, Jan. 6 at LA Tech to continue Conference USA play. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. and the game will stream on watchstadium.com.
