No. 8 Texas hands UTSA 7-0 loss on Friday

AUSTIN – In a match that required play in two locations, eighth-ranked Texas handed UTSA a 7-0 loss on Friday.

The contest began at the Texas Tennis Center, but as doubles action started rain forced the match to be moved to the Weller Indoor Tennis Center.

"It was a tough match against Texas," UTSA head coach Rodrigo da Silva said. "They played really well. It was their first match at their new court, so they were really excited to play. After it rained, we had to take a break and move to the indoor courts but they wanted to keep their momentum going."

The Longhorns (1-0) clinched the doubles point after play resumed with wins at the top two spots.

Texas then swept all six singles matchups to earn the shutout. Christian Carrillo was the only UTSA player to push a match past two sets. After dropping the opening set, 6-2, Carrillo won the second frame 7-5. His opponent Johnny Goodwin won the tiebreaker by a 7-4 margin to complete the sweep.

The Roadrunners (0-2) will return to San Antonio to face Denver in their home opener on Sunday.

"We're looking forward to the next match and seeing if our guys can bounce back and play well against Denver," da Silva said.

First serve is slated for 9 a.m. at the UTSA Tennis Courts.FINAL RESULTS
