BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The UTSA women's basketball team (3-14, 1-4 C-USA) was plagued by a second-half shooting drought and fell to WKU (13-5, 4-1 C-USA) on Thursday afternoon at E.A. Diddle Arena. Sophomore Marie Benson led the Roadrunners in points for a third consecutive game with nine.
Turning Points
The Roadrunners and the Lady Toppers traded leads in a tight first quarter, with the conference foes knotting the score on three occasions. With the score tied at six, WKU ignited for an 11-0 burst to take the lead at the end of the first quarter. WKU grew its advantage in the second frame with a 9-0 run to as the Lady Toppers took a 36-22 edge into the half.
The Lady Toppers continued to dominate in the second half, as the Roadrunners only managed 16 points in the third and fourth quarters.
Inside the numbers
- UTSA shot 20.0 percent from the floor and went 0-for-12 from 3-point range, while WKU shot 42.1 percent from the floor and dished out 5-of-12 3-pointers.
- The Roadrunners won the rebounding battle, 45-42, led by a seven rebounds from Benson followed by six from Tijia Hawkins, five from Tasharian Robinson and five from Barbara Benson.
- UTSA held a 19-15 edge in second chance points.
- The Roadrunners committed 25 turnovers while only forcing 14 WKU errors.
- WKU out-blocked UTSA 10-0 while holding a 13-9 edge in steals.
- UTSA committed 21 fouls to WKU's 16.
- WKU went 20-29 from the charity stripe as UTSA finished 14-of-20 from the line.
