SAN ANTONIO – UTSA women's basketball will play its second Conference USA road swing in the coming days, starting with a Thursday (Jan. 18) game at WKU and a Saturday (Jan. 20) tilt at Old Dominion. Tipoff against the Lady Toppers is slated for 11 a.m. (CT), while the ODU contest will start at 6 p.m. (CT)
WKU game overview
UTSA plays its 17th game of the 2017-18 season with a Thursday morning contest at WKU. The game will tip at 11 a.m. at the E.A. Diddle Arena. Thursday's game will feature free admission for all fans and will be carried nationally on Fox College Sports and locally on WKU PBS with Jeff Younglove and Paul Sanderford on the television call. The contest will also feature live audio on goUTSA.com with Stu Paul providing play-by-play.
UTSA (3-13, 1-3), which went 1-1 last weekend, picked up its first C-USA win of the season with a 64-56 victory over Old Dominion at the Convocation Center. In its most recent game, WKU (12-5, 3-1 C-USA) could not overcome a strong fourth quarter by UAB, picking up a 79-61 loss in Birmingham.
Inside the series: UTSA leads 2-1
UTSA and WKU have met on the hardwood once every season since 2015, when the Lady Toppers joined Conference USA. A year ago, the Roadrunners outpaced WKU in a competitive, 80-77, victory at the Convocation Center. UTSA leads the all-time series 2-1, picking up its first win in a 64-63 contest against WKU on Jan, 24, 2015. The Lady Toppers sole win came in 2016, with a 72-65 triumph in Bowling Green, Ky.
Getting to know WKU
Standing at 12-5 overall and 3-1 in league action, WKU was dealt its first C-USA loss of the season, when the Lady Toppers fell to UAB, 79-61, in Birmingham last weekend. In the matchup, Ivy Brown turned in a strong game for WKU, falling just shy of a double-double with 25 points and nine rebounds and posting a career-best six blocks.
Overall, Tashia Brown leads all C-USA players with 22.5 points per game and fellow preseason All-C-USA pick Ivy Brown is just short of averaging a double-double at 16.5 points and 9.9 rebounds per game. The pair have combined to score just over 50 percent of WKU's points this season.
Old Dominion game overview
UTSA plays its 18th contest of the 2017-18 season with a Saturday evening contest at Old Dominion. The game will tip at 6 p.m. CT at the Ted Constant Center in Norfolk, Va. Saturday's contest will stream on CUSA.tv and will air on goUTSA.com with Stu Paul providing play-by-play.
Inside the series: UTSA leads 4-3
UTSA (3-13, 1-3 C-USA) and ODU met just last week, with the Roadrunners pulling out a 64-56 victory in San Antonio. The win snapped a UTSA three-game skid to open conference play and saw the Roadrunners improve to 2-5 at the Convocation Center. The Roadrunners were paced by Marie Benson with a game-high 19 points and 12 rebounds. Joining the sophomore in double figures was Carlie Heineman with 18 points, including a career-high six 3-pointers, and Crystal Chidomere with 13 points.
Getting to know Old Dominion
Over the last six games, ODU owns a +5.8 rebound margin and has outrebounded its opponent in four of those six games. In addition, the Monarchs have utilized a well-balanced offensive attack, as ODU has had six different leading scorers in the last nine games. ODU has gotten a team-best 11.2 points per game from Victoria Morris to go with Odegua Oigbokie's 6.0 rebounds per contest. MaKayla Timmons averages 3.6 assists per game, while Taylor Edwards leads the way with 31 steals and Carley Brew has added nine blocks. Morris is the primary deep threat, pacing the team with 51 3-pointers made and 159 attempts (.321).
