UTSA opens Ted Nelson Invitational Friday evening

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – UTSA indoor track & field kicked off the 2018 season with the running of the distance medley relay and 5,000-meter run Friday evening at the Texas A&M-hosted Ted Nelson Invitational.
 
The women's Roadrunner distance medley relay quartet of Amber Boyd, Christy Gilbert, Stephanie Sauceda and Colleen Gilbert crossed the finish line in fifth with a time of 12:23.62. Meanwhile, the men's DMR team of Luca Chatham, Andrew Pirog, Zack Kovar and Mason Riley stopped the clock in 10:42.44 to place sixth.
 
Martin Luevano placed sixth with a time of 16:05.88 in the 5,000m event, while Olivia Flores scored an eight-place finish with a 19:38.30.
 
The Ted Nelson Invitational continues Saturday (Jan 13) with the field event starting at noon, the track preliminaries opening at 12:30 p.m. and the track finals commencing at 2:30 p.m.
