Hartson joins baseball coaching staff as student assistant

SAN ANTONIO – Brock Hartson has joined the UTSA baseball team as a student assistant coach, head coach Jason Marshall announced on Friday.

Hartson, who pitched for the Roadrunners for three seasons (2013-15), was a 21st round selection of the Cleveland Indians in the 2015 MLB First-Year Player Draft. The Pearland native pitched professionally for three seasons before retiring following the 2017 campaign. The right-hander posted a career 2.94 ERA in 294 innings of work with the Cleveland farm system.

Hartson was a 2013 Collegiate Baseball/Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American. As the Friday-night starter, he helped UTSA to the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tournament championship and an appearance in the NCAA Corvallis Regional. He started on three-days rest in the WAC championship game and held Dallas Baptist to only one earned run to lead the Roadrunners to an 11-4 victory.

The two-time all-conference selection hurled 312 innings in a UTSA jersey. He amassed a 22-12 record on the mound with a 3.06 ERA, six complete games, including one shutout, and 214 strikeouts.

Hartson will assist the Roadrunner pitching staff while working to complete his bachelor's degree.
