SAN ANTONIO – Led by Jhivvan Jackson's 19, five Roadrunners scored in double-figures as UTSA cruised by Bethany College 95-67 Saturday evening at the Convocation Center.
UTSA (7-5) never trailed as the Roadrunners controlled the contest from start to finish, while limiting its regulars to no more than 23 minutes each.
Joining Jackson in double-figures were Keaton Wallace with 12, Giovanni De Nicolao with 11 along with Deon Lyle and Nick Allen with 10 apiece. Byron Frohnen controlled a season and game-high 11 rebounds.
Bethany (5-10) was led by San Antonio native Isiah Saenz with 21 points via seven 3-pointers.
The Roadrunners closed the game shooting 48 percent (36 of 75), including a season-high tying 15 3-pointers. UTSA commanded the boards 58-31 and outscored the Swedes 19-5 in second chance opportunities.
De Nicolao scored the first bucket of the game and UTSA expanded its lead to double-digits two minutes later via a Frohnen layup. Toby Van Ry pushed the Roadrunners up by 20 for the first time at the 10:28 mark with a mid-range jumper after an offensive rebound. Following a Thomas Hood score for the Swedes, UTSA went on an 11-0 run to take a 30-point advantage at 44-13. The run was highlighted by a pair of Austin Karrer 3-pointers.
Bethany outscored UTSA 15-5 over the final 4:30 of the half, including a 13-0 run, but the Roadrunner still held a 21-point advantage at 49-28 after 20 minutes of play.
The Roadrunners shot an even 50 percent (18 of 36) in the opening half and outrebounded the visiting Swedes by seven. Jackson led all scorers at the break with 14 points in 12 minutes off the bench.
UTSA outscored Bethany 15-10 to open the second half to take a 64-38 lead on a thunderous dunk by Allen at the 15:23 mark. The Roadrunners made three more 3-points on their way to an 80-54 lead with 7:50 to go before head coach Steven Henson emptied the bench.
Bethany got no closer than 27 the rest of the way as UTSA secured its seventh win and fifth 90-plus point output of the season.
