SAN ANTONIO – UTSA men's basketball will play its ninth and 10th games of the season in the coming days, starting with a Saturday (Dec 2) game at Utah Valley and a Monday (Dec. 4) tilt at Oklahoma. Tipoff against the Wolverines is slated for 8 p.m. (CT), while the Oklahoma contest will start at 7 p.m. (CT).
Utah Valley game overview
• UTSA plays its ninth game of the 2017-18 season with a Saturday evening contest at Utah Valley. The game will tip at 8 p.m. CT at the UCCU Center in Orem, Utah. UTSA (5-3), which went 14-19 last season (8-10 C-USA; ninth place), is in its second season under head coach Steve Henson. Utah Valley (4-3), which finished as CBI semifinalist last season, is led by Mark Pope (third year). Saturday's contest will air on the Roadrunners Sports Network (92.5/93.3 FM The Bull in San Antonio) with Andy Everett providing play-by-play. The game will be also stream live on the WAC Digital Network.
Series history vs. Utah Valley
• UTSA and Utah Valley have met three previous times on the hardwood, including twice last season. A year ago, the programs split the season series with each winning on its home floor -- 75-71 UVU in Orem / 66-60 UTSA in San Antonio. Utah Valley leads the all-time series 2-1 as the Wolverines also won 83-78 in San Antonio in December 2015.
Oklahoma game overview
• UTSA plays its 10th game of the 2017-18 season with a Monday evening contest at Oklahoma. The game will tip at 7 p.m. CT at the Lloyd Nobel Center in Norman, Okla. Monday's contest will air on the Roadrunners Sports Network (Ticket 760 AM in San Antonio) with Andy Everett providing play-by-play. The game will be televised live on Fox Sports Oklahoma with Chad McKee (play-by-play), Bryndon Manzer (analyst), and Jessica Coody (reporter) on the call.
Series history vs. Oklahoma
• UTSA and Oklahoma have met twice before with the Sooners winning each. The series started in 1983 with a 112-72 OU in Oklahoma City as part of the All College Tournament. The programs squared off for a second time in 1995 with the home-standing Sooners claiming a 107-75 win.
125 points and 67 rebounds
• UTSA scored 125 points and corralled 67 rebounds in its win over Ottawa on Nov. 30. The 125 points were the most scored by the Roadrunners since Nov. 22, 2008 in a 136-68 win over East Central, while the 67 boards were a single-game program record.
Five-win November
• With its win over Ottawa on Nov. 30 to move to 5-3 on the season, UTSA claimed its first five-win November by a Roadrunners team since the 2009-10 squad closed the season's opening month with a 5-1 mark.
83 triples in November
• UTSA's 83 made 3-pointers in the month of November, registers as the most made by a Roadrunners squad in the last 10 years.
• The previous standard was 61 by the 2011-12 squad that went on to finish the season 18-14, marking UTSA's last winning season.
Hello from the outside
• After ranking third from the bottom in the NCAA in 3-point shooting last season, the 2017-18 edition of the Roadrunners have had no problem knocking down the outside shot.
• In the season's first eight contests, UTSA has connected on 83 3-point attempts. Freshmen guards Keaton Wallace and Jhivvan Jackson lead the way with 21 and 20 triples, respectively.
• Both the Roadrunners' 83 made 3-pointers and 226 attempts lead Conference USA as do their 10.4 made triples per contest.
• The Roadrunners are on pace to total 322 3-pointers for the season, which would shatter the school-record of 272 set by the 2011-12 team.
Quick hands
• UTSA leads Conference-USA and ranks 39th in the NCAA with 63 total steals. Starting guards Giovanni De Nicolao and Keaton Wallace led the Roadrunners charge with 16 and 12 thefts, respectively.
