SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA men's and women's cross country programs are set to compete at the 2017 NCAA Division I Cross Country South Central Regional championships Friday morning.
The event
The NCAA Cross Country South Central Regional, hosted by Texas A&M, will be contested at the Watts Cross Country Course in College Station. The women's race, covering 6,000 meters, begins at 9:15 a.m. while the men's 10,000m race follows at 10:15 a.m.
The top two teams in each race earn automatic qualification to the NCAA Championships, which will be held in Louisville, Ky., on November 18. In addition, the top four individual finishers not on a qualifying team will advance to the national meet.
Admission is free and parking is available in the Hildebrand Equine Complex at 3242 F and B Road. The facility is accessible from F and B Road off the corner intersection with 2818.
The competition
All institution in the South Central Region are eligible to compete in the NCAA South Central Regional. A total of 28 men's teams, encompassing 215 runners along with 29 women's teams, totaling 231 runners are scheduled to compete.
Representing the Roadrunners
Eight men and eight women will represent the UTSA Blue and Orange at the NCAA South Central Regional.
Lining up for the men are Monty Bertschy (33:32.9 // 10K PR), Luca Chatham (34:50.2 // 10K PR), Matthew David (first 10K race), Hunter Hawkins (first 10K race), Martin Luevano (33:54.5 // 10K PR), Josh Rodriguez (first 10K race), Peter Sepulveda (33:48.0 // 10K PR) and John von Dohlen (32:38.4 // 10K PR).
The women's team consists of Yulisa Abundis (21:33.7 // 6K PR), Amber Boyd (first 6K race), Sarah Estrada (23:30.7 // 6K PR), Olivia Flores (24:33.3 // 6K PR), Colleen Gilbert (23:47.9 // 6K PR), Gabby Gonzales (22:57.5 // 6K PR), Charlette Janicek (22:38.4 // 6K PR) and Emily Voss (23:07.7 // 6K PR).
