First UTSA men’s basketball coach Don Eddy dies

SAN ANTONIOFormer UTSA men's basketball coach Don Eddy passed away on Sunday, November 5. Eddy was the founder of the UTSA men's basketball program, serving as head coach from 1981-86.
 
Eddy came to San Antonio from Eastern Illinois where he coached the Panthers to a successful run as an NCAA Division II member after helping the program transition from the NAIA ranks.  Eddy coached at EIU from 1968-1980 posting a 208-129 record with the Panthers.
 
At UTSA, Eddy posted a 60-72 overall record, including the program's first 20-win season in just its third year of competition. Moreover, Eddy's first team's season field goal percentage of 51.2 remains the program standard.
 
After his time at UTSA, Eddy would go on to found the San Antonio area Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Don Eddy Basketball Camps.
 
Visitation is Nov. 9 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels Cherry Ridge from 6-8 p.m. with a Celebration of Life scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 10 at Parkhills Baptist Church.
 
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Vitas Hospice of San Antonio in Eddy's name.
