Davenport accepts Reese's Senior Bowl invitation

MOBILE, Ala. — UTSA senior Marcus Davenport has accepted an invitation to play in the 2018 Reese's Senior Bowl, which will be held on Jan. 27 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.

Davenport has been a dominant force on the defensive line for the Roadrunners this season. The preseason All-Conference USA defensive end has registered 49 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, eight quarterback hurries, four pass breakups, three forced fumbles and a fumble return touchdown. Davenport, who was on the watch lists for the Chuck Bednarik Award and Wuerffel Trophy and was a Senior CLASS Award candidate, ranks 10th nationally in tackles for loss per game (1.6), 14th in sacks per game (0.75) and 17th in forced fumbles per contest (0.3).

In his last six games, Davenport has posted 36 tackles, 11 TFLs, 5.5 sacks, a pair of forced fumbles, one QB pressure, one PBU and a fumble return TD. He tied a career-high with 11 tackles, including three for loss and a pair of sacks, and had a 34-yard fumble return for a score in the 20-7 win against Rice on Oct. 21, and he was named C-USA Defensive Player of the Week for his performance.

The San Antonio Stevens High School product has broken three UTSA career records — 36 tackles for loss, 21 sacks and 21 quarterback hurries — and his 15.5 TFLs and eight QB pressures this season both have set single-season marks.

With the invite, Davenport becomes the third Roadrunner in the program's short history to be invited to play in a postseason all-star game. Former All-American and current Minnesota Vikings tight end David Morgan II was invited to play in the East-West Shrine Game following his senior season in 2015. Former all-conference wide receiver Kam Jones was selected to play in the College Gridiron Showcase in Arlington, Texas, following his senior campaign in 2014.

The 2018 Reese's Senior Bowl will kick off at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, and it will be televised on NFL Network. Practices on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of the week leading into the game will be televised live by NFL Network and the Wednesday and Thursday practices also will be covered live on ESPNU.

The Senior Bowl annually features the country's best senior collegiate players and top NFL draft prospects on teams representing the North and South that are coached by the entire coaching staffs of two NFL teams.
