UTSA to open Kristen Holt era with Friday exhibition against Trinity

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women's basketball team will open the Kristen Holt era at 7 p.m. on Friday when it hosts cross-town foe Trinity at the Convocation Center in the team's only exhibition game. Admission is free for the contest.

Named the ninth head coach in program history back on August 12, Holt will make her debut on the Roadrunners' bench. Her squad features 13 student-athletes that includes nine returners from last year's squad and four newcomers. Leading the returning letter winners are Crystal Chidomere and Carlie Hieneman. Last season, Chidomere averaged 8.5 points and 4.5 rebounds while Heineman averaged 9.2 points and 2.6 rebounds.

Friday's exhibition will serve as the team's only tune-up before the start of the 2017-18 season, which will begin on Friday, Nov. 10, when the team hosts Sul Ross State at the Convocation Center. The Roadrunners concluded the 2016-17 campaign with a 14-16 overall record and a 10-8 showing in Conference USA.

Meanwhile, Trinity also will be playing its only exhibition game of the season. Led by head coach Cameron Hill, the Division III squad returns 10 players from the successful 2016-17 campaign. Trinity completed the season with a 28-2 record and a trip to the Division III Round of 16. It marked the third appearance of the Tigers in the NCAA Postseason under Coach Hill's leadership, and the 28 victories tied a Trinity single-season record.
