No. 2 Texas overwhelms UTSA on Friday night, 120-70

AUSTIN – A quartet of Roadrunners scored in double figures, but it was not enough as No. 2 Texas rolled to a 120-70 victory over UTSA in non-conference action on Friday night at the Frank Erwin Center.

For the second straight game, Crystal Chidomere led the Roadrunners (1-3) in the scoring column. The Houston native poured in 19 points, including 11 in the third quarter.

Chidomere was joined in double figures by Marie Benson, who netted 15. Karrington Donald added 11, while Alexus Dukes chipped in with 10.

The Longhorns (3-0) used a strong first quarter to take control of the contest. Texas led 30-12 after the first 10 minutes. The hosts also outscored UTSA 29-15 in the second period to take a 32-point advantage at the half.

The Roadrunners played Texas more closely in the third quarter, as the Longhorns posted a 29-25 edge out of the locker room.

Chidomere scored the first eight points of the panel, which fueled an 8-3 run. After Texas responded with a 14-2 run, UTSA answered with an 8-3 spurt of its own. The Longhorns scored nine of the final 14 points of the quarter to take an 88-52 lead.

Texas continued its momentum in the final period, opening up a 14-2 run. The Longhorns used that run to outscore the Roadrunners 32-18 overall in the final 10 minutes of action.

Brooke McCarty and Jada Underwood tied Chidomere for the game high with 19 points apiece.
