SAN ANTONIO – UTSA continues preconference play with a midweek matchup against UT Arlington on Wednesday. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. opening tip from the Convocation Center.
The Roadrunners (1-1) return home after last Sunday's loss to Arizona State at the Wells Fargo Arena. Sophomore Marie Benson registered her second double-double of the season with 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds against the Sun Devils. She also had a team best two blocks as well as a steal. Senior Carlie Heineman added nine points and a squad-high three steals while sophomore Tija Hawkins and freshman Karrington Donald added six points each.
UT Arlington enters the game looking to start 3-0 for a second consecutive season. The Lady Mavs (2-0), receiving votes in the USA Today Preseason Coaches' Poll, downed Oral Roberts on Monday night 70-46 behind a career-high 22 points from senior Crystal Allen. The stretch will also end a three-game in five-day opening to the 2017-18 season. UTA owns a 32-28 all-time record over UTSA, however, the Roadrunners (1-1) lead 18-10 in San Antonio.
UTSA has met with the Lady Mavs 60 previous times as the all-time series stretches back through two different conferences that included the Southland and WAC prior to the teams going their separate ways. The teams have met at least once every season since 1991, with the first all-time matchup taking place in 1982.
In last season's meeting, UTA upended UTSA by a score of 75-54 at College Park Center. UTSA shot 41 percent (21-of-51) from the field, including 38 percent (3-of-8) from behind the arc, and was 9-of-18 from the charity stripe.
