Roadrunners to tip off 2017-18 campaign with Sul Ross State on Friday

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women's basketball team will open its 2017-18 campaign with Texas foe, Sul Ross State on Friday, Nov. 10, at 7 p.m. at the Convocation Center.

The contest will mark the regular-season debut for first-year head coach Kristen Holt, who led the Roadrunners to a 74-60 victory over Trinity in their only exhibition game. In the triumph over Trinity, three Roadrunners reached double figures with sophomore Marie Benson leading the charge with 24 points on 10-of-13 shooting while adding 18 rebounds and three steals. Senior Carlie Heineman followed with 14 points three assists and two rebounds and freshman Tasharian Robinson chipped in 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

UTSA shot 46 percent from the field on 28-of-61 shooting and outrebounded the Tigers 55-22.
 
Meanwhile, the Lobos are coming off a 99-40 lost to UTEP as they also begin a new era under head coach Katherine Peebles. In its lone exhibition game, Sul Ross State was paced by Erica Solomon-Powell with 16 points. The sophomore was four-of-nine from three-point range in the effort and nabbed three steals and three assists. Junior Lizette Heredia led at the boards with seven rebounds.

Friday's matchup will mark the first regular season meeting between the programs.
