HOUSTON – League-leading Rice scored three goals in the opening half and won its sixth consecutive match in a 3-0 decision against UTSA on Friday evening at Holloway Field.
The Roadrunners (2-10, 1-4 C-USA) were limited to only eight shots overall, including two on goal.
Meanwhile, the Owls (8-2-1, 5-0 C-USA) tallied 23 shots attempts with eight on frame.
Rice picked up its first score in the 17th minute on an own goal.
Four minutes later, Nia Stallings picked up the ball off a turnover and then found the back of the net to double the Owls' lead.
Rice tallied its final goal on Ashley Burgess' penalty kick in the 44th minute.
Kaja Share came off the bench to net four of UTSA's eight shots in the contest. Camrynne Hoover and Marianne Hernandez each put a shot on goal that was saved by Owl goalkeeper Maya Hoyer.
The Roadrunners will return to action Sunday at North Texas. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Denton.
