UTSA drops season finale to UTEP in double overtime, 2-1

SAN ANTONIO – Lauren Crenshaw scored the game-winning goal in the 109th minute and UTEP escaped with a 2-1 victory over UTSA in the season finale at Park West Athletics Complex.

Crenshaw netted the deciding score after the ball was cleared out of the box. However, it landed at Crenshaw's feet at the top of the box and her right-footed strike carried inside the far post to give the Miners (8-11, 4-6 C-USA) the league victory.

Overall, UTEP held a 14-12 edge in shots.

The Roadrunners (3-14, 3-7 C-USA) trailed 1-0 at halftime. However, in the 48th minute, senior Kaja Skare collected the ball in the box and moved around a defender before striking a shot to the far post that found the back of the net to even up the contest.

Both teams played the next 61 minutes scoreless before Crenshaw's heroic strike.

UTSA freshman Ellis Patterson nearly gave the home team the win, as her rebound shot in the 105th minute hit the crossbar and bounced back before it was cleared out of danger.

Patterson led the Roadrunners with five shots, including two on target.

The Miners got on the board in the 42nd minute, as Vic Bohdan took a long pass from Jeanna Mullen and put the ball into the back of the net in a 1-on-1 situation.

Bohdan also attempted five shots, including three on goal and the one score.

Prior to the game, UTSA honored its two seniors – Skare and Megan Wilcox – in an on-field ceremony.
