SAN ANTONIO — Ana Gonzalez tied for 28th place to lead the UTSA women's golf team to 10th at the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational, which concluded on Tuesday at Briggs Ranch Golf Club (par 72/6,450 yards).
Gonzalez carded a 5-over-par 221 (75-71-75) as the top finisher for the Roadrunners in their annual home tournament. The freshman from Mexico posted a final-round 75 that featured back-to-back birdies on Nos. 15 and 16 and she finished the 54-hole event with eight birdies and an eagle.
Nikki Long was two shots behind her freshman teammate after posting a 223 (73-77-73) to tie for 37th. The all-conference performer closed out the fourth tournament of her senior season with a 1-over 73 that included two of her seven birdies.
Becky McGeehan fired a 225 (74-75-76) to finish 45th. The senior from Germany had three birdies en route to a 76 on Tuesday.
Julie Houston tied for 46th with a 226 (72-74-80) and Madison Kidd posted UTSA's low round of the day with an even-par 72 behind four birdies to close out a 231 (80-79-72). Competing as an individual, Alexandra Lessing placed 71st (82-78-85—245).
The Roadrunners finished 10th with an 887 (294-297-296), 13 shots in front of North Texas and 17 better than Texas Tech and just four behind Auburn (883).
No. 3 Arkansas captured its second straight team title with a 22-under 842, the third-lowest team total in tournament history. TCU and Texas A&M tied for second (860), while Denver (870) and Oklahoma (873) rounded out the top five.
Connie Jaffrey of Kansas State claimed the individual crown with a 9-under 207 (66-71-70).
The Roadrunners will return to the course on Oct. 30-31 when they travel to Dallas for the Trinity Forest invitational.
