WKU downs UTSA on Thursday night, 3-1

SAN ANTONIO – After a scoreless first half of action, WKU erupted for three second-half goals to defeat UTSA, 3-1, in Conference USA play on Thursday night at Park West Athletics Complex.

The Lady Toppers (6-8-1, 3-4-1 C-USA) scored goals in the 47th, 83rd and 86th minutes to clinch the league victory.

Aleksandra Kozovic netted the opening goal on a 25-yard free kick that curled inside the far post.

Hannah Cady doubled the visitors' advantage in the 83rd minute after receiving a pass from Hannah Chua in the box that she put into the back of the net.

The Roadrunners (2-13, 1-7 C-USA) got on the board two minutes later.

Sarah Bayhi and Cailey Elder put together passes that made it to Jordyn Lacy in the box, who beat the keeper for her first goal of the season.

However, WKU sealed the contest a minute later, as Chandler Backes scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season.

The Lady Toppers out-shot UTSA, 10-8, including an 8-4 advantage in the final 45 minutes.

Lacy paced the Roadrunners with three attempts, while Ellis Patterson had two shots on goal.
