CORPUS CHRISTI – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi scored two goals in the first 19 minutes and held on to defeat UTSA on Friday night at Dugan Soccer Stadium.
The Roadrunners (1-5) picked up their lone score in the 70th minute after Ellis Patterson found the back of the net for her third goal of the season.
Patterson's shot went to the back post after a crossing pass from the right side from Sarah Bayhi.
UTSA attempted four other shots that were on target, but those were saved by Islander goalkeeper Jordan Wainwright.
After Patterson's goal cut the deficit in half, Jordyn Lacy put a shot on goal that was saved by Wainwright. Alyssa Blankenship had one final shot in the 79th minute, but it went wide.
The Roadrunners return to San Antonio to host No. 25 Colorado on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Park West Athletics Complex.
