HOUSTON – The UTSA women's tennis team resumed its fall season over the weekend at the Rice Invitational at George R. Brown Tennis Center.
The Roadrunners completed the tournament with a total of eight victories.
Laura Cabrera reached the Flight 6 finals in singles play. The sophomore from Barcelona, Spain, started the event with a 6-1, 6-2 win over USF's Janvhi Clark. She followed it up Saturday with a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Rice's Sofie Moenster. Cabrera then suffered a 6-3, 6-3 setback in the finals to Sam Houston State's Sahaja Yamalapalli.
Additionally, Denisa Ibrahimovic and Kylee Kato advanced to the finals of the Flight 2 doubles bracket. The duo opened the tournament Friday with a 6-2 win over North Texas' Babic/Heczey. The next day the pair took down a duo from Sam Houston State, 7-6 (5). However, the two players dropped a 7-5 decision in the finals to a pairing from Rice.
UTSA will return to action Oct. 13-17 at the ITA Texas Regional, which will be hosted by TCU in Fort Worth.Rice Invitational
