CORPUS CHRISTI – The UTSA women's tennis team opened up its fall season during the weekend at the Contender Crossfit Islander Open.
The Roadrunners collected a total of 14 victories at the event.
Kylee Kato and Ivana Ilic reached the semifinals of the doubles draw. The duo defeated a pairing from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (6-4) to reach the semifinal round, but suffered a 7-6 (7-3) setback in a match against a team from Louisiana-Lafayette.
Denisa Ibrahimovic made it to the semifinals of the singles draw. The Hamburg, Germany, native posted a 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-3) win over Incarnate Word's Rachel Sadiq in the Round of 16. She then knocked off Louisiana-Lafayette's Dana Radovanocic in straight sets (6-2, 6-2).
Ibrahimovic's run came to an end in the semis, as Marina Vicens Miquel of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi logged a 6-1, 6-4 victory.
