RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech scored four consecutive goals to hand UTSA a 4-1 loss in the Conference USA opener on Sunday afternoon at the Lady Techster Soccer Complex.
The Roadrunners (1-7, 0-1 C-USA) netted the opening score of the contest in the 21st minute.
Sarah Bayhi sent a long pass upfield that was tracked down by Ellis Patterson, who beat the goalkeeper in a 1-on-1 matchup inside the right post for her team-leading fourth goal of the campaign.
The Lady Techsters (8-1-2, 1-0 C-USA) rallied and netted two goals in the 36th and 37th minutes, respectively, to take the lead for good.
Mylene Roy-Ouellet posted the equalizer, while a foul set up a free-kick score from Nomvula Kgoale for the game-winner.
Louisiana Tech added two more goals in the second half. Kailee Hervey (67th minute) and Jenna Dages (80th minute) capped off the scoring to clinch the win for the Lady Techsters.
UTSA managed 15 shots, including eight on goal, and a pair of corner kicks.
Meanwhile, Louisiana Tech took 19 attempts with 13 on target and three corners.
Gabriella Mariello started the game in goal and posted five saves, while Michelle Cole came on in the second half to stop four shots.
The Roadrunners will return to play next Sunday at Middle Tennessee. The league match is slated to kick off at 2 p.m. at Dean A. Hayes Soccer Stadium in Murfreesboro, Tenn. The contest will be broadcast live on the beIN Sport Connect app, which is available on beIN's website, the Google Play Store and the Apple Store. Additionally, the game will re-air on Friday, Sept. 29 on the beIN Sports Network.
