UTSA, Houston play to a scoreless draw

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA closed out its preseason slate Sunday night, as the Roadrunners played Houston to a scoreless draw in an exhibition match at Park West Athletics Complex.

The Cougars edged UTSA in shot attempts, 14-9, while both teams took five corner kicks during the 90-minute contest.

Ellis Patterson paced the Roadrunner offensive attack, as the freshman attempted a game-high four shots, including a pair on goal.

Patterson's top-scoring chance came in the 78th minute as she was played a pass ahead and in the box. The Austin native tried the near post but Houston goalkeeper Kate Godfrey made the stop, keeping the score tied.

Kristina Schulz nearly put the visitors on the board in the 66th minute, as she launched a shot from 25 yards out that rattled the crossbar.

Michelle Cole and Gabriella Mariello combined to keep the Cougars scoreless. Cole logged three saves in the opening period, while Mariello came on to post two stops in the final 45 minutes.

UTSA will prepare for its regular-season opener against Abilene Christian, which is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 18. Kickoff for the non-conference tilt is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Park West Athletics Complex. Admission for the event is free.
