SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men's golf team paid tribute to retired United States Air Force (USAF) Lieutenant Colonel Michael E. Kaufhold throughout the 2016-17 campaign by participating in the Folds of Honor Military Tribute Program (FHMTP).
One member of the team carried a commemorative golf bag as part of the Roadrunners' second year participating in the FHMTP. The replica bag now will be auctioned off with all proceeds given to the Folds of Honor, a program that raises money to give scholarships to the children of wounded warriors and fallen soldiers.
Anyone interested in bidding on the bag should contact assistant coach Kyle Collins at kyle.collins@utsa.edu or (210) 827-2774. The auction will conclude on Aug. 15.
Lt. Col. Kaufhold served for more than 21 years, primarily as a personnel officer with the USAF. He led the Military Personnel Flight at Elmendorf Air Force Base (AFB) in Alaska, served as the Commander, Mission Support Squadron at Hill AFB in Utah and as the Director of Personnel, Seventh Air Force in Korea. He served during Operation Backfill Indy, Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm.
His military decorations include the Joint Meritorious Service Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal.
The FHMTP provides the opportunity for any collegiate or high school golf program to honor a fallen or severely wounded American soldier by having a team member carry a golf bag displaying the name, rank and branch of service of the soldier being honored during the school year.
