EUGENE, Ore. — Adrian Riley became the 15th All-American in UTSA men's track & field history on Wednesday evening when he earned second-team honors by virtue of his 15th-place finish in the long jump at the NCAA Championships.
Riley, who was coming off a fifth-place performance at last month's NCAA Championships Preliminary Rounds, broke the sand in 24-5 (7.44m) on his first attempt of the competition. His subsequent two jumps resulted in measurements of 24-3 ½ (7.40m) and 24-4 ¼ (7.42m) and he did not advance to the nine-man final.
Florida's KeAndre Bates took home the gold medal with his leap of 26-5 (8.05m), which came on his sixth and final jump.
"Our goal was to make it to nationals in the decathlon with Adrian, but that did not happen," Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Aaron Fox said. "He then advanced unexpectedly in the long jump and competed extremely well against the nation's best here in Eugene. We are extremely proud of his accomplishments this year."
Riley is the second UTSA long jumper to earn outdoor All-America accolades, as Tyler Williamson leaped to honorable mention laurels back in 2012.
The Roadrunners now have seen 15 athletes combine for a total of 31 All-America certificates in program history and UTSA has featured at least one All-American in each of the past 11 seasons, all of which have come under the direction of Fox.
