SAN ANTONIO — Adrian Riley will look to become the 15th All-American in UTSA men's track & field history on Wednesday night when he competes in the long jump at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. The 24-man competition is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. (CT) at historic Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.
Riley, who has set new personal records in his last two outings, qualified for the national semifinals after finishing fifth at the NCAA Championships Preliminary Rounds two weeks ago in Austin. All 24 competitors will get three jumps with the top nine marks moving onto the final, which will consist of three more attempts.
The junior from Kingston, Jamaica, leaped to a career-long measurement of 25-6 ¼ (7.78m) back on May 25 and that was an improvement of nearly eight inches from the wind-aided mark of 24-10 ½ (7.58m) he recorded during the decathlon at last month's Conference USA Championships. He comes into this week's meet in fourth place on the program's all-time performers chart.
Riley has competed in the long jump six times (four open/two decathlon) this spring. He was victorious at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays back in April and fourth at the C-USA Championships.
UTSA has seen 14 athletes combine for a total of 30 All-America certificates in school annals and the Roadrunners have featured at least one All-American in each of the past 10 seasons.
