Torres earns spot on InTouch Credit Union Conference USA All-Academic Team

IRVING — Gabriyella Torres was one of 13 women's track & field student-athletes that earned a spot on this year's InTouch Credit Union Conference USA All-Academic Team, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Torres, who maintains a perfect 4.00 in pre-business, competed in a combined 11 meets between the indoor and outdoor campaign this past year.

She posted a personal-record score of 5,009 points en route to sixth place in the heptathlon at the Conference USA Outdoor Championships and her score was bolstered by personal records in four of the seven events —  800 meters (2:27.48), 100m hurdles (14.86), long jump (18-4 ¼/5.59m) and shot put (33-10 ¾/10.33m).

The sophomore from Port Isabel won the heptathlon at the Roadrunners Invitational with 4,837 points. She also finished second in the high jump at the season-opening UTSA Invitational (5-5/1.65m) and again at the Houston Alumni Invite (5-5/1.65m).

The indoor season saw her place seventh in the pentathlon at the C-USA meet with a career-best 3,452 points. She was runner-up at the Houston Invitational (3,365) and also earned a bronze medal in the high jump at the indoor season-opening Texas A&M Team Invite (PR 5-6 ½/1.65m).

Torres is a two-time recipient of a C-USA Academic Medal and also has landed on the Commissioner's Honor Roll in each of her first two years as a Roadrunner.
