SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will complete this season's home-and-home series with Baylor when it host the Bears on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Roadrunner Field.
In the last meeting back on March 28, the Bears checked in at No. 21 in the national rankings and the Roadrunners dismantled the Big 12 opponent by a score of 15-9 behind a hot offense and five scoreless innings from Steven Dressler.
UTSA (28-22) heads into Tuesday's contest winners of four of its last five games with a 15-12 mark within the friendly confines of the Bird Bath. The Roadrunners picked up a very crucial road series win at Charlotte this past weekend.
The Roadrunners potent offense, which is hitting at a .302 clip as a team, has five players batting .300 or better. Ben Brookover tops UTSA lineup with a .377 batting average, which ranks third in Conference USA. Meanwhile, Kevin Markham, who boasts a .338 average, leads the team in hits (71), including 30 for extra bases.
Right-hander Chance Kirby will be make his fifth start of the season on Tuesday. Kirby owns a 6.63 ERA in 36.2 innings worked and the junior is 1-2 on the season with 33 strikeouts and he has not issued a walk in his last seven outings (15.2 innings).
Baylor (32-17) heads into the midweek contest off a weekend sweep at Oklahoma State. The Bears saw Shea Langeliers and Troy Montemayor recognized by the Big 12 as the Newcomer and Co-Pitcher of the Week, respectively, after leading the Bears to five wins a weel ago.
Aaron Dodson leads Baylor with his .318 batting average and he has 57 hits, 33 RBIs and a .535 slugging percentage.
On the hill for Baylor will be right-hander Hayden Kettler. The freshman will be making his fourth start of the season and 17th appearance overall. Kettler is 2-0 on the season and has tossed 31.1 innings with 25 strikeouts.
