EL PASO — The UTSA women's track & field team wrapped up competition at this weekend's Conference USA Championships on Sunday.
The Roadrunners' final day of action was highlighted by Jennifer Arinze and Paige Patterson racing to the two fastest 400 meter times in program history.
Arinze broke her program record for the second consecutive night when she crossed the finish line fourth in 53.40. The senior from Richmond posted the second-best preliminary heats clocking, a 53.88, on Saturday night.
Meanwhile, Patterson was just one tick behind her teammate in fifth in a time of 53.41, which shattered her previous personal best of 54.20 from a year ago, and that gave UTSA a combined nine points in the event.
Middle Tennessee's Abike Egbeniyi raced to the gold medal in 52.63.
Elesha Alyn placed sixth and scored three points in the triple jump when she matched her career-best measurement of 40-7 ½ (12.38m). Rice's Daisy Ding was victorious with her wind-aided leap of 43-6 (13.26m).
De'Stini Henderson also added a sixth-place performance in the 100 meters when she crossed the finish line in 11.76. Middle Tennessee's Janet Amponsah raced to the gold medal in 11.39.
Meet host UTEP cruised to the team title with 153 points, while Middle Tennessee (126) and Charlotte (85.5) rounded out the top three. The Roadrunners finished 10th in the 13-team field with their 30.5 points.
UTSA will return to action in two weeks at the NCAA Championships Preliminary Rounds. The three-day meet is scheduled to get underway on Thursday, May 25, in Austin.
