SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will look to get back to its winning ways this weekend when it hosts Middle Tennessee in a three-game Conference USA series that begins at 6 p.m. on Friday.
With the three weekends remaining in the regular season, the Roadrunners (22-21) are tied for sixth in the league standings with FIU with a 7-11 mark. After dropping an 11-8 heartbreaker to I-35 rival Texas State this past Tuesday, UTSA now has dropped three straight.
As a team, UTSA is tied for fourth with a .301 batting average, which is also best for 36th in the nation. The Roadrunners rank in the top five in seven offensive categories and top the circuit in triples with 13.
Ben Brookover maintains his spot at the top of the Roadrunners season stat sheet with a .372 average. Brookover has registered a hit in 22 of his last 24 games and has tallied 11 multi-hit games.
Middle Tennessee makes the trek to the Lone Star State with a 20-24 overall record and tied for 10th in the C-USA standings with a 7-14 mark. The Blue Raiders have been swept in each of their last two conference series and are riding a three-game losing skid.
The trip to the Alamo City will be the first of two to the state of Texas, as the Blue Raiders will visit Rice next weekend.
Middle Tennessee is hitting at a .301 clip as team, best for third in the league. Leading the offensive charge for the Blue Raiders is Aaron Aucker with a C-USA best .407 average. Aucker is fifth in hits (46), ties for the team lead in runs scored (33) and tops the squad in triples (2), home runs (9) and slugging percentage (.761). Middle Tennessee also has five other players hitting .300 or better.
On the hill, relief pitcher Will Small owns the best ERA with a 3.24 in eight appearances (16.2 IP), while starter Jake Wyrick (11 starts) owns a 5.96 ERA and a 3-1 record. Wyrick also leads the pitching staff with 59 strikeouts, best for ninth in the league.
