EL PASO — UTSA shut out a depleted UTEP by a score of 4-0 on Sunday at the El Paso Tennis Club.
With the Miners (4-12) forfeiting the No. 3 doubles contest and Nos. 4-5 singles tilts, the Roadrunners (11-8) need to just win once in doubles play followed by three singles triumphs.
UTSA picked up the doubles point when Kylee Kato and Miriam Rosell Canudas downed Milou Pietersz and Lois Wagenvoort by a score of 6-3 on center court. Lina Hallgren and Charleen Tiwari won on court three by forfeit.
Rosell Canudas, the nation's 99th-ranked singles player, then clinched the victory with a 6-1, 6-4 win against Pietersz at the top spot in the lineup. The senior from Torello, Spain, wrapped up the regular season with a perfect 19-0 record in dual-match play.
Laura Cabrera and Kato both were victories by forfeit at the bottom two positions of the lineup.
UTSA will open Conference USA Tournament play on Thursday, April 20. The four-day postseason event will be played in Denton.
