SAN ANTONIO — UTSA tallied 13 hits with five Roadrunners registering multiple hits and UTSA picked up a 7-1 victory against WKU on Sunday.
The middle of the UTSA order combined for seven of the team's 13 hits.
Bryan Arias led the lineup with three hits for his team-leading 13th multiple-hit performance of the season. Arias was a triple shy of the cycle, as he went 3-for-5 with two runs, three RBIs, a double, home run and stolen base. Meanwhile, Ben Brookover, Trent Bowles and Chris Estrada each had two hits on the day with Bowles adding two runs scored and a stolen base.
Arias put the wheels in motion for UTSA (16-15, 6-6 C-USA) early in the opening stanza after he blasted a two-run homer. Two batters later, Bowles, who reached on a fielder's choice, came around to score on Estrada's double to give the Roadrunners a 3-0 lead.
Another run in the second inning increased the lead to 4-0 after pinch runner Ryan Stacy crossed home plate on Kevin Markham's grounder to first.
Starting pitcher Steven Dressler gave up the only WKU run in the third inning, but he received a no-decision with only three frames of work. The Roadrunners bullpen, comprised of Chance Kirby and C.J. Pickering, held the Hilltoppers (11-22, 4-8 C-USA) to four hits and no runs.
Kirby was awarded the win after working a season-high five innings that produced five strikeouts. The junior right-hander did not issue a walk or give up a run on his time on the hill.
UTSA tacked on lone runs in three consecutive innings before going quietly in the eighth.
Bowles scored for the second time in the fifth inning after Tony Beam's sacrifice fly allowed the left fielder to come home.
In the following inning, Arias' two-out double eventually led to a run on a Brookover infield single.
Beam produced the final run for UTSA with a solo long ball.
WKU starter Evan Acosta was charged with the loss after allowing three runs on four hits.
UTSA will return to Roadrunner Field on Tuesday, April 11, when it hosts Incarnate Word at 6 p.m.
