Roadrunners men to compete at Saturday's Houston Alumni Invitational

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men's track & field squad will be back in action on Saturday when it travels to the Bayou City for the Houston Alumni Invitational. The one-day meet is scheduled to get underway at 10 a.m. at the Carl Lewis International Complex.

Athletes from Houston Baptist, Illinois, Rice, South Florida, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas Southern and Tulane will join the host Cougars and Roadrunners.

UTSA competed at the prestigious Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays last weekend.

Patrick Prince once again paced the team in the 110-meter hurdles. Prince, who ran the top preliminary heats time on Friday (13.79), crossed the finish line in 13.97 in the field of nine finalists on Saturday. The sophomore from Conroe came into the race with the second-best time in the country and he now stands tied for 10th.

Meanwhile, Derek Fenton (discus) and Tyler Finke (shot put) both added second-place finishes.

Fenton recorded a career-best toss of 171-4 (52.22m) en route to his silver medal in the B section of the discus and it was an improvement of more than five feet from his previous personal record.

Finke just missed his career best on his way to a runner-up performance in the B flight of the shot put. The senior from Celina registered a mark of 56-11 ¼ (17.37m) and that was less than two inches shy of the winning toss of 57-0 (17.37m) registered by South Dakota's Jacob Barents.

The men currently lead Conference USA in four events.
