Taylor earns Conference USA Spirit of Service Award

IRVING — Conference USA Commissioner Judy MacLeod announced Wednesday the 14 student-athletes that have received the C-USA Winter Spirit of Service Award and UTSA's women's indoor track & field performer Chelsea Taylor was among the honorees.

Taylor has volunteered for Professional Business Women Society, Brides Against Breast Cancer, Little Business Women's Day, Girl Genius Tutoring, Girls Scouts of Southwest Texas' Back-To-School Jamboree, Battered Women's and Children Shelter Fall Fest and Any Baby Can, which is an organization that assists families with special needs children.

A senior management science major, she also is a three-time member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and has been named to UTSA's Presidents List and Dean's List during her time in the Alamo City.

The Jersey Village native scored points in both the 1,600-meter relay and 400m at the 2017 Conference USA Indoor Championships with third- and seventh-place finishes, respectively. She also captured a bronze medal as part of the 1,600m relay team at the 2016 C-USA Outdoor Championships.

The award recognizes the community service efforts of the league's student-athletes, based upon significant public service, good academic standing and participation in their elected sport.

The Spirit of Service Award is presented three times throughout the season, with today's honorees representing the winter sports of men's and women's basketball, men's and women's swimming & diving and men's and women's indoor track & field.
