SAN ANTONIO — UTSA scored its second Conference USA series win in the past three weeks by rallying for an 8-5 victory against UTEP on Sunday afternoon at Roadrunner Field.
The Roadrunners (14-22, 4-8 C-USA) used a five-run sixth inning and several solid defensive plays in the top of the seventh to lock down the victory against the Miners (9-25, 4-8).
Chelsea Parker picked up the win in relief, tossing two scoreless innings and allowing just one hit in earning her first victory of the year,
Five Roadrunners had two hit days, including Taylor Oberg, who hit her first home run of the season. Others with multiple hits included Bailee Baldwin, Randee Crawford, Celeste Loughman and Kailey Pyles.
Baldwin got the hit parade started in the sixth inning with a first-pitch blast to right center, which signaled the end of the day for Miners pitcher Erika Harrawood.
Hailey Garza walked, Pyles dropped a single into center and Oberg hit a deep fly to right for a sacrifice fly for the first run of the frame. With two outs, freshman Lindsey Stewart singled through the right side and Loughman hit a ball back up the middle that ricocheted off the pitcher's glove to the second baseman and she bounced the throw to first, allowing two runs to scamper home and Loughman to get to second. Crawford followed with another single to center field to score the eighth run of the day.
UTSA returns to the field on Tuesday, April 4, when it hosts Houston Baptist at 6 p.m.
