UTSA to head to Houston for Saturday's J. Fred Duckett Twilight

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women's track & field team will return to action on Saturday when it travels to Houston to compete at the 14th annual J. Fred Duckett Twilight at Holloway Track/Ley Field on the campus of Rice University.

The one-day meet will begin at 10 a.m. with the discus and the afternoon running session will start six hours later with the 100-meter hurdles (click here for the complete meet schedule).

Other schools scheduled to compete in addition to the Owls and Roadrunners include Dallas Baptist, Houston, Houston Baptist, Incarnate Word, Prairie View A&M, Sam Houston State, Southeastern Louisiana, Southwestern, St. Edward's, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas Southern, Texas Wesleyan and Trinity.

The Roadrunners posted a total of nine top-10 finishes at last weekend's three-day Mt. SAC Relays while also competing on Saturday at the Beach Invitational. Leading the way was the trio of Mia Hicks, N'Dia Warren-Jacques and the squad's 1,600-meter relay, who all posted fifth-place performances.

Syd Howells and UTSA's 400-meter relay lead the Conference USA standings after the opening six meets of the outdoor season.

Howells is tied with Rice's Hannah Jackson atop the league's 100 meters leaderboard. The sophomore from Round Rock clocked a career-best time of 11.44 on March 18 at the season-opening UTSA Invitational. The clocking was the third-fastest performance in program history.

Meanwhile, Howells also paces the circuit as part of the Roadrunners' 400m relay quartet. Tadrian Rose, De'Stini Henderson, Olivia Esemena and Howells passed the baton in a season-best 45.29 at the UTSA Invite and that stands as the second-fastest time in school annals. The foursome also owns the fifth-best time, a 45.59, which came the following week at the Roadrunners Invitational.
