SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men's track & field team will return to action on Saturday when it travels to Houston to compete at the 14th annual J. Fred Duckett Twilight at Holloway Track/Ley Field on the campus of Rice University.
The one-day meet will begin at 10 a.m. with the discus and the afternoon running session will start six hours later with the 110-meter hurdles (click here for the complete meet schedule).
Other schools scheduled to compete in addition to the Owls and Roadrunners include Dallas Baptist, Houston, Houston Baptist, Incarnate Word, Prairie View A&M, Sam Houston State, Southeastern Louisiana, Southwestern, St. Edward's, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas Southern, Texas Wesleyan and Trinity.
Adrian Riley's victory last Friday in the long jump highlighted the Roadrunners' busy weekend of action at two meets on the West Coast. All told, the Roadrunners posted a total of a dozen top-10 finishes at the three-day Mt. SAC Relays while also competing at last Saturday's Beach Invitational.
Riley leaped a career-best 24-4 ½ (7.43m) in topping the field of 18 long jumpers. The nine-inch improvement from his previous personal record moved him up to fifth place on this season's Conference USA leaderboard.
UTSA has three athletes that rank among the top 25 nationally in their respective events heading into the weekend.
Leading the way is Patrick Prince, who ranks 15th in the country in the 110-meter hurdles. The sophomore from Conroe clocked a career-best time of 13.79 back on March 30 at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin. It was the second-fastest performance in program history.
Meanwhile, Riley currently stands 22nd nationally in the decathlon. His personal-record score of 7,318 points came from March 23-24 at the Roadrunners Invitational and it was the fourth-best effort in school annals.
The Roadrunners' other athlete in the top 25 is Vasha Sheriff, who is 25th in the 400m with his career-best time of 46.45 that came on March 25 at the Roadrunners Invitational. It was the third-fastest clocking in UTSA history.
As for the C-USA rankings, Roadrunners athletes and relays sit atop the league standings in four events, rank second in five and third in three.
