FORT MYERS, Fla. — Led by a trio of top-15 individual finishes, UTSA placed third at this week's Conference USA Championship, which wrapped up on Wednesday at Verandah Club (par 72/6,194 yards).
Julie Houston, Nikki Long and Aimee Ponte all finished in a tie for 13th place at 7-over-par 223 to lead the Roadrunners to their 10th straight top-four conference finish.
UTSA carded an 889 (298-297-294) to claim the bronze behind Old Dominion (876) and Middle Tennessee (884) and ahead of FIU (894) and Southern Miss (897) in the 11-team field.
Long led all Roadrunners in the final round with an even-par 72 that featured a pair of birdies on the back nine. The San Antonio native turned in a 77-74-72—223 on the strength of a team-high eight birdies for the fourth top-15 showing of her junior campaign and her third top-20 conference finish.
Houston wrote down four birdies en route to a 74 on Wednesday and matched Long with eight for the event. The sophomore from Allen, Texas, registered her fifth top-20 outing of the season and her second straight top-20 league performance with a 72-77-74—223.
Ponte posted her second 75 of the tournament behind two of her seven birdies, both coming on the back. The senior from Guernsey finished in the top 15 at the C-USA Championship for the second time in her career with a 75-73-75—223.
Madison Kidd and Becky McGeehan both finished two shots back and in a tie for 18th to round out the UTSA lineup.
Kidd carded a 74 that was highlighted by three of her six birdies for the week. The Lake Jackson, Texas, native's scorecard of 78-73-74—225 led to her second straight top-20 finish.
McGeehan also registered a 74 on Wednesday that featured a birdie on the par-4 eighth. The junior led all Roadrunners and was second in the 55-player field with 39 pars en route to her 74-77-74—225, good for her second consecutive top-20 finish at the conference tournament.
Middle Tennessee's Jenna Burris captured individual medalist honors with a 7-under 209 (67-70-72).
