Islanders blank Roadrunners on Tuesday, 5-0

CORPUS CHRISTI — Texas A&M-Corpus Christi held UTSA to three hits in a 5-0 shutout on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference softball action at Chapman Field.

The Islanders (8-28) rode the right arm of Liz Carter, who struck out 11 and allowed just the three hits and one walk in a complete game.

The Roadrunners (17-27) got base hits from Bailee Baldwin, who extended her hitting streak to seven games, Celeste Loughman and Kaley Pyles, but they could not break through for a run in their second setback of the year to the Islanders.

The Islanders struck for three runs on four hits, including a pair of doubles by Kandace Johnson and Aspen Auger, in the bottom of the first to take a 3-0 lead.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi tacked on a run in the third when Lacey Boyd reached on an error, moved to second on a groundout and scored on a two-out hit to left center by Megan Mitchell.

The Islanders added another run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly to short right field by Candice Hadd that scored Mitchell from third and provided the final margin.

The Roadrunners will return to Conference USA play this weekend when they host Louisiana Tech (29-15, 12-3 C-USA) in a three-game series from Saturday-Sunday at Roadrunner Field.
