WICHITA, Kan. — Wichita State blanked the UTSA men's tennis team by a score of 4-0 on Sunday at the Genesis Health Club.
The Shockers (13-12) grabbed the doubles point by winning two of the three contests.
The Roadrunners (6-17) duo of Christian Carrillo and Juri Reckow handed Miroslav Herzan and Haru Inoue a 6-3 setback at the top of the lineup,
However, Jocelyn Devilliers and Vitor Mendes teamed up for a 6-3 win against Leon Hein and Takeru Watanabe at No. 3 to even the ledger.
Murkel Dellien and Marius Frosa then clinched the 1-0 lead for Wichita State with a 6-4 victory against Fabian Brand and Axel Cronje at No. 2.
The Shockers claimed a 2-0 advantage when Frosa swept Cronje, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 2 singles.
Inoue, the 92nd-ranked player in the nation, then beat Reckow by a 6-4, 6-1 count at No. 1 to pull the home side to within one point of securing the match.
Dellien provided the clincher with a 6-4, 6-2 win against Gabriel Borunda at the fifth spot.
The Roadrunners will travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn., next weekend to compete at the Conference USA Tournament from April 21-23.
