Roadrunners wrap up competition at pair of weekend meets in California

LONG BEACH & TORRANCE, Calif. — The UTSA women's track & field team posted a total of nine top-10 finishes at this weekend's three-day Mt. SAC Relays and it also competed on Saturday at the Beach Invitational.

Leading the way was Mia Hicks, N'Dia Warren-Jacques and the squad's 1,600-meter relay, who all posted fifth-place performances.

Hicks recorded her fifth-place finish on Friday in the discus, when she registered a measurement of 152-9 (46.56m), while Warren-Jacques also placed fifth on Friday in the shot put with her toss of 48-11 ¾ (14.93m).

Saturday saw the Roadrunners' mile relay of Chelsea Taylor, Jennifer Arinze, Sierra Andres and Paige Patterson pass the baton in a season-best 3:37.52, which was the second-fastest time in program history and it also ranks second on this spring's Conference USA leaderboard.

Syd Howells placed sixth in the 100m on Friday after crossing the finish line in a wind-aided time of 11.51 and the duo of Arinze (54.86) and Patterson (54.99) finished seventh and eighth, respectively, in Friday's 400m.

Meanwhile Shalise Borden was seventh in Thursday's hammer competition with her throw of 183-9 (56.01m) and Katelynn Homb added an eighth-place performance in the discus with her toss of 146-10 (44.77m).

The Roadrunners' other top-10 finish of the weekend came from Elesha Alyn, who placed ninth in the triple jump (39-2 ½/11.95m).

UTSA will be back in action next Saturday, April 22, at the J. Fred Duckett Invitational in Houston.
