IRVING — Nikki Long was named to the InTouch Credit Union Conference USA Women's Golf All-Academic Team for the second straight season, the league office announced on Thursday.
Long, who carries a 3.95 GPA as an economics major, was one of seven student-athletes voted to the team by the league's sports information directors. The San Antonio native is a three-time C-USA Academic Medal recipient, a three-time C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll selection, a two-time Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar and a 2016 C-USA Spirit of Service Award winner.
On the course, Long leads the Roadrunners with a 74.54 stroke average this season. A 2016 second-team all-conference pick, she has registered three top-five finishes, highlighted by a tie for fourth to help lead UTSA to the Texas State Invitational team title in February. The two-time C-USA Athlete of the Week honoree fired a collegiate career-best 4-under-par 212 (70-71-71) to tie for fifth at The Dickson later that month. In her last event at the Hawkeye El Tigre Invitational on April 2-4 in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, Long tied for fifth with a 217 (73-73-71) for her fifth career top-five performance.
Long and the Roadrunners will be back in action next Monday-Wednesday, April 17-19, when they travel to Fort Myers, Fla., for the C-USA Championship.
